How we teach Maths in EYFS
We use the White Rose Maths Scheme and Development Matters to inform planning and assessment. Structured Maths sessions are delivered daily and children have the opportunity to practise and apply skills taught through play on a daily basis.

Reading in Reception
Reading in the Early Years is an integral part of children's early literacy and language development and it is one of the four specific areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage. Language development and reading is incorporated into every aspect of learning through careful planning. During a school day, the children in the Early Years will experience reading through: listening to songs, reading carefully chosen books for their ability with a group or individually with an adult. Children engage in active reading sessions, listen to online stories and audio books as well as participating in Letters and Sounds sessions. Different strategies are used for these different methods, however, reading is at the centre of the curriculum and children are observed and assessed in structured sessions as well as free-flow play.

How we teach Literacy in EYFS
We teach writing through phonics and deliver guided writing sessions. Through daily free flow play, children are encouraged to practise their writing in a variety of ways.

Topic Work
At the heart of our teaching is the development of the curiosity and our practical tasks and questioning focus heavily on this. Children participate in free flow play: a range of activities are set up for children to develop skills in various areas and learn through play. They explore a variety of topics and cross curricular links are made. When and where possible, a 'real life' experience is offered through carefully selected resources.
